In an exciting leap forward in the realm of technological innovation, Dubai has unveiled a groundbreaking "digital city concierge" service, driven by generative artificial intelligence (AI). This state-of-the-art initiative, known as Dubai AI, is accessible through the dubai.ae website and the Dubai Now mobile application, bringing a new era of convenience and efficiency to the emirate.
Dubai AI: The Future of Digital Services
Dubai AI, modeled after the impressive capabilities of ChatGPT-style AI, is designed to offer a wide range of services and information, making it a unified, seamless channel for residents and visitors alike. The platform boasts a user-friendly interface capable of responding to inquiries spanning 15 sectors, including tourism, aviation, healthcare, entertainment, and education.
Matar Al Hemeiri, the CEO of the Digital Dubai Government Establishment at Digital Dubai, introduced this remarkable digital city concierge during its launch at the Dubai Assembly for Generative AI. During this event, he emphasized the plan to expand the range of services, sectors, and capabilities in collaboration with both the public and private sectors. Dubai AI aims to continuously evolve with the input and support of its partners, marking a collective step towards the future of AI-driven services.
As Matar Al Hemeiri articulated, "Digital transformation is not new to Dubai, but we have a lot to be done. We are inviting all our partners to work with us to co-create these use cases." This spirit of collaboration and innovation defines Dubai's commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of its residents.
Dubai's Leadership in Smart Services and Governance
Dubai's journey into the digital age has been marked by a series of visionary steps. Over the past two decades, the emirate has taken a leadership role in rolling out smart services, governance, and technology regulation.
In 2000, Dubai Internet City was established, setting the stage for smart services and eGovernment strategies. This forward-thinking approach continued with the launch of M Government in 2013. In 2014, the Smart Dubai platform was introduced, overseeing key technology components such as smart cities, blockchain, and data law.
Notably, the Paperless Dubai initiative, launched in 2018, aimed to make government entities paper-free, resulting in substantial cost savings and environmental benefits. The initiative has saved approximately Dh900 million ($245 million) in government costs and spared an estimated 39,000 trees through 2021.
The establishment of Digital Dubai in 2021 marked a significant milestone in the emirate's digital journey. With a mandate to develop and oversee policies and strategies related to information technology, data, digital transformation, and cyber security, Digital Dubai consolidates the expertise of four entities: the Dubai Electronic Security Centre, Dubai Statistics Centre, Dubai Data Establishment, and Smart Dubai Government Establishment.
UAE's Digital Economy Strategy
In line with its pursuit of technological excellence, the UAE government unveiled the Digital Economy Strategy last year. This ambitious strategy aims to increase the contribution of the digital sector to the GDP by 20% over the next decade, up from 9.7% in 2022. It is a testament to the UAE's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies and attracting top-tier talent.
ChatGPT's Influence on the Digital Landscape
ChatGPT, the generative AI platform developed by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, has played a transformative role in the world of conversational AI. Its advanced capabilities have spurred a competitive race among major technology companies, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Oracle, and Elon Musk.
The launch of Dubai AI aligns with a broader movement to revolutionize the government's approach to providing services to the emirate's residents. Moza Suwaidan, CEO of the Digital Dubai Government Establishment's digital applications and platforms sector, emphasized the government's evolving role in this context: "Our role in the future will be more focused on enablement and regulations as opposed to operating different services and systems."
Dubai AI's introduction signifies a remarkable step forward in the realm of AI-driven services, promising a future where technology enhances convenience, accessibility, and efficiency for all.
